Hi, I'm Dr. Heather Brummett,

And my passion is to help dancers be a Top Dancer AND take care of their body!

I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy that specializes in Dance Medicine and also have two daughters that are competitive dancers.

Since 2001, I have taught dancers how to train in proper alignment, understand their anatomy, and implement injury prevention strategies, so that they can be top dancers and take care of their body now and more importantly, in the future.

It is truly rewarding when dancers are trained in injury prevention, basic anatomy and overall, how to stretch and strengthen for specific alignment and control.
The information learned will help in the journey of dance and really, life!

Technique is critical, however there is much more than only technique that needs to be considered and taught. I always say I teach the “technique behind the technique.” And it’s great as a home program that dancers do on their own.

In The Dance Advancement Project, I have specifically put together a group of exercises that will take dancers to the next level for classes, solos and group numbers.

The training incorporates exercises that prepare for techniques, tricks and other movements that are needed for certain competition routines or performances at dance studios and during classes at dance conventions with certain teachers/choreographers.

The foundations learned will reach far in the journey with dance - whether that is now for this season in classes or competitions/performances , as well as in the future.

I remember when I was younger and we had instructors come to the dance studio and teach beneficial techniques and stretches that I have never forgotten - it was so helpful!

As a parent, it's hard to see your child injured. I know it can be challenging when your child complains of pain or popping. AND THEN it's challenging knowing whether to have your child rest or perform.

One of the many aspects of being a dancer is to stay healthy and safe as possible, so they can be their best at all rehearsals and performances.

The Dance Advancement Project is for dancers that are ages 9-14 that are wanting to be a better dancer… And for the parents that want their child with more control, awareness, flexibility and strength, and of course to be safe!

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! The more they learn early, the more things "stick" with them and will be able to achieve more!

As a past competitive top award dancer, convention scholarship winner, dancer touring with conventions, and professional dancer, I know the demands that are placed on the dancer's body. I also know that dancers are athletes and need to have the knowledge and training to have their bodies work for them to be a better dancer, especially as they are growing!

Let's work together and get stronger, increase flexibility, enhance foundations for technique and all of your dancing and most of all learn exercises that will make you a better dancer this year!

It’s the perfect time as you start up the new season. You’re back to being focused and determined to make group numbers and be noticed at conventions. But most importantly, to be a better dancer!

Let’s do this!!
